The Sitges Festival opens the curtain on the fourth edition of Taboo'ks, the meeting point for the publishing and audiovisual worlds
Today, Thursday June 18th, the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia opens its call for submissions for the fourth edition of Taboo’ks, the professional forum that brings together the publishing and audiovisual industries. Taboo’ks is held as part of the Festival, which will be taking place this year from 8 to 18 October.
Publishers, producers, directors, writers, screenwriters and other professionals from the publishing and audiovisual worlds are the protagonists of Taboo'ks, which was born in 2017 thanks to the Sitges Festival’s commitment to bringing fantastic genre works, projects and editorial content closer to the film industry. From among all the submissions received, the program selects four works (novel, play, comic or graphic novel) to be presented at a pitch session in front of producers accredited at the Festival, for the purpose of exploring the possibilities of their adaptation to the big screen. The process to submit works, which begins today, will end on August 18.
Taboo’ks functions as a rights market specializing in fantastic genre and is a day of reflection, debate and dialogue revolving around the industry of adaptations. The forum presents master classes, panel discussions, one-to-one sessions and a contact list to encourage networking and the implementation of projects. At its last two editions, Taboo'ks’ featured two prestigious guests: the renowned Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist - Let the Right One In (2004), Handling the Undead (2005) and Himmelstrand - Heaven’s Beach (2014) - and the American screenwriter Nicole Perlman, in charge of the adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), among others.
