Now open the call for Sitges Pitchbox 2020, which will be virtual and will include series
Submissions will be accepted via the Filmarket Hub until September 3rd
For the sixth year running, the Filmarket Hub platform and the Sitges Festival have joined forces to organize Sitges Pitchbox, an international pitching event focused on horror, science fiction or fantasy projects under development. This new edition will be held virtually and for the first time will be focused on both international feature films and European series currently under development.
The event will take place over the course of four days during the Festival. The 8th and 9th of October will be dedicated to series, while the 15th and 16th will be reserved for feature films. Companies such as Atresmedia Studios, El Estudio, Film Factory, Filmax, Gaumont, Globalgate Entertainment, Leonine, Lionsgate, Nadcon Film, Showrunner Films, Wild Bunch TV or XYZ Films have all confirmed their participation.
The call for projects is already open and until September 3rd, submission will be accepted through the Filmarket Hub online marketplace. A total of seven feature films and seven series will be selected. The persons responsible for these projects will have the opportunity to make a seven-minute pitch and subsequently have one-on-one meetings with the participating companies.
The program offers four different types of awards thanks to the Barcelona Provincial Council. This year, as an exceptional measure in response to the Covid-19 crisis, the awards in the form of travel expenses to attend and present the project at the markets NAFF - Bucheon International Film Festival (South Korea) and at the Blood Window in Ventana Sur (Argentina), will be converted into two additional development awards. The prize for the best feature film will be 5,000 €, while the two feature film runners-up will receive 1,000 € each. In addition, the prize for best series will be 2,500 €.
Sitges Pitchbox 2020's virtual format has already been successfully validated by the Filmarket Hub at UK Online Pitchbox, an event focusing on British projects held in early July with the participation of companies like BBC Films, Entertainment One, Film4, NBCUniversal and Studiocanal. Filmarket Hub is an international online market that connects film and television projects under development with companies from the audiovisual sector: production companies, TV channels, OTT platforms, international sales agencies and distribution companies.
