After the screening of Embrión, the film's director, Gonzalo López, talked with the audience about his movie. "At first my idea was to do a remake of TheEmbryo Hunts in Secret, by Koji Wakamatsu, but then I saw that the original film could become a limitation", the young director explained. Although López gave up the remake idea, his movie doesn't lose sight of the Japanese classic.
Embrión is the story of a boy, played by Sergio Bernal, who picks up a girl, Mariona Tena, and takes her home. His intention is to possess her intimately and carnally. Embrión speaks of conformism, submission and other invisible forms of violence.
"Violence and sex are vehicles for the film's ideological, moral and aesthetic discourse", the director said.
"For the movie's most discursive part my main reference was La chinoise (1967), by Jean-Luc Godard, while plastically, Brian de Palma perfectly embodies my aesthetic ideology", López explained.
