Casa Asia: special attention to oriental cinema

SITGES 2011, once again this year, continues to pay special attention to the Asian continent (Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, India and Indonesia, among others) and its revolutionary genre cinema. Besides the specialized section, Casa Asia, Asian cinema will also be present in the Festival’s different sections, from the In-Competition Official Fantàstic selection or Noves Visions to Anima’t.

It’s important to point out the presentation of the second film by Korean Na Hong-jin, The Yellow Sea, in the In-Competition Official Fantàstic selection. In this same selection, Japanese Takashi Miike will be presenting the premiere of Hara-Kiri: Death Of A Samurai, a movie shot in 3D that was screened at the past Cannes Festival.

In the Noves Visions section we will be able to enjoy, for instance, Arirang, the new and bewildering movie by Korean director Kim Ki-duk, or Himizu, the suggestive, brilliant adaptation of the manga by the same name, directed by Japanese Sion Sono.

Finally, one of the most long-awaited films for those lovers of special effects and spectacular action scenes is Sector 7, by Kim Ji-hoon, that will be screened in the Casa Asia section. Also in this section, veteran director Ryoo Seung-wang will be presenting The Unjust, a thriller about the corruption of the Korean legal system, and Hong Kong director Wong Ching-po promises to surprise us with his forceful Revenge: a Love Story.
