The Sitges Festival will be making an appearance at Cannes 2018
An event with industry professionals and the kickoff of its partnership with the Slate Entertainment Group will be featured in Sitges’ agenda at La Croisette
This week, Cannes opened the planet’s foremost film experience and Sitges will be present. An event with the industry and the professional sector, and the visibility of a partnership it secured with the Slate Entertainment Group are the focus of Sitges’ activity at La Croisette, the popular Cannes boulevard that is home to the festival’s headquarters.
The 51st Sitges Film Festival is already revving its engines and one of the year’s events that is an absolute must is the Cannes Festival. The lines of internationalization that Sitges has been developing over the last few years are reinforced year after year, thanks to the film competition’s participation in other festivals around the world. At the French festival, Sitges will meet with the industry at an official event open to professionals and press that will be taking place in the Argentine Pavilion at the Marché du Film this upcoming Saturday at 18:00.
The Slate Entertainment Group (SEG) and the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia have agreed to enter a partnership thanks to which, the Festival will adopt SEG's blockchain based digital ticketing platform, Slatix, for the purchase of tickets and festival passes. So this way, Sitges will become a pioneer in the industry and will be the first film festival in the world to accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment.
Its presence in Cannes comes in addition to the Sitges Festival’s participations in other international film competitions, with presentations, other specific lineups or even our 50th anniversary exhibition. This last March, Sitges was present as one of the big stars at the Guadalajara International Film Festival (Mexico), where Catalonia was the guest of honor. Four different genre films chosen by the Festival were screened and the exhibition Cinema is Fantastic, commemorating its fiftieth anniversary, also travelled there.
Three other high profile international events also took place in March. The prestigious South by Southwest in Austin (Texas) opened its doors to Sitges. Monica Garcia, the Foundation’s Deputy Director, and Diego López, member of the programming committee and the person in charge of the Brigadoon section, participated in two professional panels where they presented Sitges’ model and its status as the world’s number one fantastic film festival. Sitges was also one of the special guests at the very first edition of the Pinamar Blood Window Festival (Argentina), initiating a common path to promote Latin American genre films all over the globe. And another already essential event is the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (Filmart), which provides an encounter between Sitges and the Asian industry every year.
This April, Sitges travelled to the Far East Film Festival in Udine (Italy). Its Deputy Director, Mike Hostench, took part in a panel that was included in the Focus Asia section as a member of its programming committee.
