Sitges Pitchbox 2018 opens its call which will include participation by Ron Perlman
Horror, science fiction or fantastic genre feature films in development can be submitted until this upcoming August 29th
The Filmarket Hub platform has opened its call for genre projects for a new edition of Sitges Pitchbox, the international pitching event organized in conjunction with the Sitges Festival. This new edition will include an initial speech by American actor Ron Perlman, who picks up the baton from Guillermo Del Toro, the 2017 edition’s special guest.
Among all of the submitted projects, seven will be selected to be presented on October 5th as a part of the Festival. First, there will be a pitching session in front of producers, sales agents, distributors, and other companies from the audiovisual sector. Later, the Hotel Meliá garden will accommodate the networking cocktail party and the awards ceremony, where all of the participants will be able to share their impressions and contacts.
The American actor Ron Perlman will be the special guest at this year’s Sitges Pitchbox and he will receive an honorary award from the Festival. Winner of the Golden Globe Award in 1989, Perlman is known for his performances in genre films like Hellboy or in series like Sons of Anarchy. Ron Perlman will be picking up the baton from Guillermo Del Toro, the 2017 edition’s special guest.
Once again this year, thanks to the Barcelona County Council, the selected projects will have access to an attractive prize pool. First prize is 5,000€ for development expenses. Two travel prizes will also be awarded to attend and present projects at the Bucheon International Film Festival (South Korea) and Blood Window (Argentina), the fantastic film section at the Ventana Sur market, the most important in Latin America.
At the same time, two parallel prizes that the submitted projects will have access too will also be available. The project with the most Asian impact will be selected to participate in The Crouching Tigers Project Lab, a co-production and co-financing encounter that is a part of the International Film Festival & Awards in Macao. On the other hand, the two best Catalan projects at the call will be selected to attend Blood Window along with the delegation organized by Catalan Films & TV.
Since its first edition in 2015, the event has become exponentially internationalized. Last year’s edition included projects from highly diverse countries like the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Chile or Peru. Among the success stories that emerged from Sitges Pitchbox is the outstanding Sin Fin, the debut film by the Alenda Brothers starring María León and Javier Rey. The film picked up the Siler Biznaga Award for Best Actor at the past Malaga Film Festival and will be premiering on this upcoming October 19th thanks to Filmax.
