'Superlópez' to have its world premiere at Sitges 2018

The Festival will receive the visit of this popular superhero before his arrival in theaters on November 23rd

Coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the creation of the comic character Superlópez, the Festival has programed the world premiere of its adaptation for the big screen. Dani Rovira, who brings the character created by the Spanish comic book artist Jan to life, will be attending Sitges 2018 along with the film’s director Javier Ruiz Caldera and the actors Julián López and Alexandra Jiménez, who play Jaime González and Luisa Lanas, respectively.

On Thursday 11th October, the 51st Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia will be welcoming the world premiere of Superlópez, the screen adaptation of the legendary comic character created by Jan. Born as a parody of the Superman character for the Euredit publishing house in 1973, the popularity this superhero chalked up led him to become one of the Bruguera publishing house’s last big hits, to go on to be a part of the lineup at Ediciones B soon afterwards. After the initial humor and the parody, Jan endowed the comic with a greater social burden, offering fans different reading levels. Now the turn goes to film, where it promises to be one of the blockbusters of the season.

The production was shot with art and technical crews that rise to the challenge of the character. Superlópez was directed by genre specialist Javier Ruiz Caldera, who in 2015 presented the adaptation of another comic character, Anacleto, Anacleto: Agente Secreto, and boasts a screenplay that’s the result of the collaboration between Borja Cobeaga and Diego San José (Spanish Affair, Spanish Affair 2) and based on the character created by Jan. The film’s coming out at the Sitges Festival will be attended by its director, Javier Ruiz Caldera, its leading man, Dani Rovira, and the actors Julián López and Alexandra Jiménez at a gala ceremony taking place at the Meliá Sitges’ Auditori.

Ever since he arrived on Earth from the planet Chitón, Juan López’s life has not been easy. It’s hard not to stand out when you have superpowers. Being able to fly, have super-vision or stop a subway train so it doesn’t derail… and then go back to the office,  making an effort to be a normal guy, hasn’t been at all easy for Juan López. Or maybe it has been, because Juan doesn’t need anything besides his morning croissant to be happy… But something is about to change. The appearance of Luisa, an old high school love, in López’s orderly life is going to wreak havoc. It is no longer a time to stay under the radar. Despite the fact that because of this, he might draw the attention of the evil Skorba and his devious daughter, Agatha, and endanger the survival of his home planet.

Superlópez is produced by Telecinco Cinema, Zeta Cinema and La Gran Superproducción AIE, with the participation of Mediaset España and Movistar+, and the support of ICAA and ICEC. It is distributed by Buena Vista Internacional. Its premiere in commercial theaters is scheduled for November 23rd.
